How does the Tulip bed accept a mattress? Does a normal foundation/box spring sit inside the rails? Or does it come with slats for holding top mattress? Also, how high is the rail from the floor?

Asked by: jsb2
Yes, this bed accepts a mattress. We recommend a 8" deep mattress & 7" deep box spring as anything deeper will hide bottom portion of headboard. This bed must have a box spring. The measurement from floor to top of rail is 19" .

Asked by: vresut
We recommend 8" deep mattress & 7" deep box-spring (anything deeper will hide bottom portion of headboard). Our vendor recommends extra slats if there is a weight concern.

is the tulip bed pictured with a half height boxspring? Someone had said it was way too high without one. Are there slats underneath for the boxspring,(king size), or just metal anchors on the sides? Where is this bed made? thanks, Kate

Asked by: katemn
We recommend an 8" deep mattress & 7" deep box-spring, anything deeper will hide the bottom portion of the headboard. There are (3) "L"-shaped angle irons on each side rail (top/middle/bottom) with 3 slats: slats are 3/4" thick to support the box-spring. The bed is made in Rhode Island, USA.

will this bed take a regular mattress and box spring? Can I use just a mattress with it? will the graining with knots shown in the picture be similar in all the beds, within reason...do they all have some graining detail?

Asked by: kittennose
We recommend using an 8" mattress and 7" box spring. A box spring is required. These are handmade to order and no two beds will be exactly the same as each will have the natural grain of the wood. There should be graining on all of the beds but it will always vary.

Which does GH sell more of, the white or the cherry stain? Is it an option to pick up the frame? I live in Maine & am thinking it would be wicked convenient if I could swing by & pick it up from your NH location/s.

Asked by: JAM73
The cherry stain is the biggest seller in this beautiful bed. As the bed is made to order, it is shipped directly to the delivery address and is not available for pick up.

Can a bed skirt be used on this? Would it go behind the wood slats on the sides? Also, can a 5" box spring and 11" mattress work?

Asked by: Megmh
Yes, you can use a bedskirt, but it would hide the wood side panels. We recommend an 8" deep mattress & 7" deep boxspring (anything deeper will hide bottom portion of the headboard). A box spring is required.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Bed of my dreams Beautiful! It came in three boxes so it was easy for me to handle and went together very easily. I couldn’t be happier with this bed. It is the bed of my dreams. So well made. Gorgeous!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worth it. This is a beautiful bed, and the craftmanship is exceptional. I'm particularly enamored with the bed bolt covers. It took two people about 35-40 minutes to put it together, and the bed included all hardware (heavy duty) as well as a 4 way screwdriver. I purchased this during a sale, which made the price more affordable. Be prepared to wait several months for this, though I would not have this discourage you as it has become standard for any good quality furniture since 2020.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love my new bed! First of all, it's as beautiful as it looks in the pictures. And it's solid wood, which seems increasingly harder to find. But when I put the bed together, I was especially impressed with the workmanship. Every joint fit perfectly. Every screw hole was straight. It took a while to assemble (and once I needed an assist), but that was only because I was taking my time and I wanted to be sure I would damage it. Note: It's higher than I expected it to be. So before you buy it, get out your tape measure and see the other posts.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautiful bed This is a beautiful bed. It has a beautiful finish, and a lovely, old-fashioned look. Assembly was required, though instructions were clear and tools were provided. A few comments. This bed was not available in California King, which required me to buy a new mattress. Cal King should be a basic requirement for beds sold at GH. Secondly, the mattress/box spring recommendations by GH are quite specific. We instead bought a 13 inch mattress with a two inch “box spring platform” and it works fine and looks beautiful. The mattress is about 29 1/2 inches off the floor. The bed probably could accommodate a slightly thicker mattress/box spring combo if the purchaser already owned this. (A significantly thinner combination would cause a gap between the mattress and the headboard, allowing the pillows to fall through). I hope this info is useful to others who are considering this purchase.
