Organic cotton
One of our favorite and most versatile premium natural fibers, organic cotton makes up less than 1% of cotton grown in the world.
Feel good about wearing it, and sleeping in it.
This durable material boasts all the benefits of conventionally grown cotton, with the added advantage of environmentally friendly production. We’re sharing why we love eco-friendly organic cotton, plus offering tips for washing clothing, bedding, and home textiles made from this premium fiber.
What is organic cotton?
Organic-cotton fibers are harvested from fields that have not been exposed to toxic chemicals, GMOs, or pesticides for at least three years. Farming cotton organically eliminates the harmful impact chemicals can have on the land and water sources. Our organic cotton is soft and breathable against your skin, and just as durable as conventionally grown varieties.
Benefits of Garnet Hill organic cotton
From its minimal environmental impact to its versatility, these are the reasons organic cotton is a smart and comfortable choice for clothing, bedding, and home textiles.
Environmentally friendly
Because organic cotton is grown without the use of pesticides and other harmful chemicals, it makes a lighter impact on the environment.
Durable
Cotton fibers have a high tensile strength, which makes them extremely durable even when wet. They’re less likely to rip or tear, even after extended use or multiple washings.
Versatile
Versatile cotton threads can be woven or knit into a variety of fabrics, including crisp percale, silky-smooth sateen, relaxed jersey knit, and cozy flannel. Organic cotton is a preferred material for everything from clothing to rugs, bath towels to bedding.
Comfortable
Organic cotton is absorbent, breathable, and soft to the touch — one of the most comfortable fabrics for bedding, clothing, and sleepwear.
Organic cotton FAQs
Why is organic cotton better?
Because it’s grown without the use of chemical pesticides or harmful substances, organic cotton is better for the environment and for your skin.
Does organic cotton wrinkle?
Some organic-cotton fabrics are more prone to wrinkles than others. For a wrinkle-resistant option, choose organic-cotton sateen, jersey knit, or flannel.
What is OEKO-TEX® Certified cotton?
Some Garnet Hill organic-cotton bedding is certified under the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® label, which guarantees that every component of the product — from the buttons to the zippers — is free of harmful substances.
Is organic cotton hypoallergenic?
Organic cotton is naturally hypoallergenic, and because it is grown without the use of pesticides and other toxic substances, it is less likely to cause a reaction in those with chemical sensitivities.
How to wash organic cotton
Organic cotton is not only durable and versatile, but it’s also a conveniently low-maintenance fiber. Always follow your individual product’s care instructions. In general, you can simply toss organic-cotton items in the wash on a cool or warm temperature, depending on the fabric. Use a gentle detergent, and then tumble dry at a low temperature or air dry to avoid damaging the fibers.
Does organic cotton shrink?
Organic cotton may shrink slightly, like most cotton material. To avoid shrinkage, wash in cool or cold water and dry on a low-temperature setting.
